She could barely breathe, the air seemed so thick with tension. Sarah glared at the blueprints spread across her kitchen table. The detailed drawings of the fence seemed to mock her, a rigid barrier against everything she held dear.

The construction crew were already at work. She could hear the shouts and the grinding of the machinery. Each loud noise felt like a physical blow.

She gripped her throat, trying to find some purchase for her rapidly climbing anxiety. She needed to do something, anything to stop this, to control it, but she was frozen in place.
